Elac FS 507 VX-JET (Pair)

VX-Jet Transducer

Line 500 greatest innovation is the acclaimed ELAC VX-JET transducer drive unit, which combines the renowned JET tweeter with a ring-radiator midrange driver in a concentric arrangement setting the foundation for remarkable sound. Variable X-JET suspension understands that every room presents different acoustic characteristics resulting in different results from one room to another. A mechanism on the loudspeaker rear allows for stepless adjustment of the entire drive unit by up to 8mm in front of and behind the front baffle.

By changing the position of the VX-JET, it is possible to fine tune the sound dispersion characteristics in the middle to high-frequency range. This not only alters the tonal balance, but also the relationship between direct and diffused sound arriving at the listening position. VX-JET makes it possible for the first time to create a uniform and precisely etched three-dimensional sound stage in different rooms and at varying listening distances.

Crystal Membrane Drivers

The eye-catching surface of the crystal membrane is more than just an attractive design feature. All woofers and midrange drivers of Line 500 employ the Crystal Membrane (patent pending) and their design is based on ELACs Aluminum-Sandwich AS Technology. The crystal-shaped inverse aluminum dome is joined to the paper cone in a special gluing process to result in the desired sandwich construction.

Resembling the surface of a large crystal, the aluminum-foil stamping stiffens the aluminum dome, diminishing resonances and minimising coloration, while improving power handling and dynamics. The voice coil design of the midrange and bass drivers results in an expanded range of the respective drivers by nearly an octave. The wide, double-asymmetrical rubber surround of ELACs TT 180 woofer can handle up to 15 mm excursions for truly prodigious volume and lowest distortion, a unique engineering achievement for a driver of its size.

JET 5 tweeter

Delivering true high-definition sound, ELACs JET 5 tweeter enthralls with its lightning-fast response and wide dynamic range offering minimal distortion, lots of headroom and a distinctly wider frequency range than conventional dome tweeters. This is one of the most legendary models in the industry and has won international praise with its transparent and effortless sound image.

JET tweeter, based on the famous Air Motion Transformer, uses a concertinaed-foil membrane driven by a strong magnet system of neodymium rods. This motor drives the air considerably faster than the pistonic motion of a conventional driver, with gains in higher sensitivity and extraordinary dynamics. An improved new neodymium magnet system with other design upgrades achieve even higher efficiency, sound pressure levels and frequency response up to 50kHz.

The core of the JET tweeter is the folded foil membrane with a fold width of only 0.84mm. To guarantee consistent accuracy and quality, gluing and handling are executed robotically. The folding and fixing is executed by hand for extreme precision guaranteed by the manual dexterity of skilled technicians. JET 5 tweeter’s linear frequency response is ideal for the reproduction of DVD-A and SACD.
